Overview of the project

The project work of the course is to create a service or application that uses the wireless communications. The work is done in groups consisting 1-N members.

The work is divided in two phases. Phase one is the design phase from which the result is a plan of the service that the group is going to make. Phase two is the actual implementation of service/application (or part of it).

Phase one

In phase one the group will plan a service prepare a presentation about their service idea and write a document about the plans.

Presentations of the service ideas will be held 4th of March during the lecture. Each group have maxuímum of 10 minutes to pitch their idea. The audience will then have opportunity to make comments and give ideas. After all groups have given their presentations, everyone in the audience will act as business angels and distribute some imaginary money (provided during the class) to their favorite projects.

After the presentation the group finalizes their document about the service plan. The document should describe in detail how the service is working. The document should answer to the following questions:

  • Who is the audience of the service.
  • What mobile/wireless devices are used
  • What communication technologies are used.
  • Is there going to be some service enhancing technologies used i.e. Content adaptation for device, location, personalisation, sensor data of location etc.
  • Justification for the aforementioned choices.
  • Who is going to do what in the final implementation.

The group can also have features in their service that they are not going to implement (Due the lack of tools or testing capabilities or just lack of man power). The reason for not implementing the feature is expected to be in the document. The document is returned to Pekka Jappinen (firstname.lastname@lut.fi) with subject [WSE plan]. Deadline 15.3.2013 14:00 UTC+2

Phase two: Implementation

On phase two the designed service is implemented. The final service will be demonstrated. Besides the service, the group delivers a report that describes the service and how it differs from the plan and justifications for the changes (i.e. why the changes were needed). Report should also contain information about the challenges and problems faced and how they were solved so that fellow students can learn from them. Finally add in the report who was responsible of which part of the service. Report will be returned during the presentation.

Final demonstration day will be agreed during the lectures and the date will be added here. Demonstration day will be also the deadline for the work.
