CT30A6000 - COMMUNICATIONS SOFTWARE, PROTOCOLS AND ARCHITECTURE

Exercises

  • Exercises: 1-3 period
    • Group 1 Tuesday 17-19 room 6325
    • Group 2 Wednesday 8-10 room 6325
    • You should select one group in week
  • Before first exercises register yourself either group into list.
    • List is located on bulletin board at titesähkötalo (wing 6) at 5th floor in a corridor towards 4th wing (there is also exam result list at same place)
  • Participation of exercises is optional, but very recommended unless you have very solid knowledge and implementation skill of the communications systems.

Homeworks

  • There will be given 5 homeworks
  • Homework is done personally and returned
  • Homework is optional, but each completed homework gives a bonus point to grading
  • Assignments and deadlines will be given on exercises page.

Project Work

  • Project work trains skills to create communication systems in practice.
  • Project work divides into two phases
    • Design and specification of communication, result ⇒ Specification document
    • Implementation of application with specified communication, result ⇒ working communicating software
  • Project work is done in two person groups
  • Assignments and deadlines will be given on exercises page.

Grading

  • The course grading will consist of exam and project work
    • 70 % of the grade will come from exam (70 p)
    • 30% from the project work (30p)
  • Successful home work give you extra 5 points
  • You will have to getting passing grade from both exam and the project work in order to pass the course,

EXAM

Passing exam will require getting at least half the points from maximum. There will also be one threshold question in exam that you have to pass in order to pass the whole exam.

Grades from exam:

  • 0-34 : 0 (or if threshold question is not passed
  • 35 p : 1 (if treshold question is passed)
  • 42 p : 2
  • 49 p : 3
  • 56 p : 4
  • 63 p : 5

Final grades

Final grade will be determined by adding your exam points and practical assignment points together. In order to pass the course you have to getting passing grade from exam and the project work.

  • 0-49 : 0
  • 50-59: 1
  • 60-69: 2
  • 70 - 79 : 3
  • 80-89 : 4
  • 90+: 5

Workload

Workload estimation gives an estimate of the required work during the course. By default the work is calculated according to average passing (3), with proper background knowledge stated at course prerequisites. More work is required for better grades.
